Google’s new Chromecast costs $30 – Today, Google unveiled a new $30 Chromecast that supports HD streaming and comes with remote control. Yes, that is the official name, and the company is releasing the Chromecast with Google TV (HD) in 19 nations, including the United States.
This was released two years after Google unveiled a $49 Chromecast that supported 4K HDR streaming and featured a remote. 1080p streaming is supported by the new Chromecast. More than 10,000 Google TV-compatible apps, including Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+, and Prime Video, are supported by the new Chromecast. Additionally, Google has upgraded its live TV support over time.
It is similar to the remote that came with the 2020 Chromecast. Its form resembles the top half of a hot dog bun, and its top has a navigation circle with buttons for Back, Home, Mute, Power, TV Input, and Google Assistant; the side has volume controls. Additionally, the remote has buttons that can be used to access Netflix and YouTube. The YouTube button can be re-assigned to open YouTube TV, YouTube Music, or YouTube Kids by pressing and holding the button.
You can use Google Assistant on the remote to voice-control your smart home appliances and search for shows, movies, and videos. As a result, you can adjust your thermostat, turn on or off your lights, and even stream the live feed from your Nest security camera to your TV.
The new Chromecast includes all Google TV goodies, such as user profiles, the “For You” tab, the Library tab for your Google purchases and rentals, and a Watchlist that can be synced across devices. Back in May, the company updated the Google TV app to include casting capabilities and announced that there were now over 110 million Android TV devices worldwide.
Users will be able to group Nest speakers and play music in various rooms through their TV or phone because it is a Chromecast.
The new Chromecast is less expensive than the original $35 model that Google released in 2012, but after four years, the company is updating the low-cost model. The search engine giant is late to the party because Roku and Amazon both released $30 HD streaming sticks during that time.
Starting today, the Chromecast with Google TV (HD) will be offered in the “Snow” color. With this new gadget, purchasers in the US will receive six months of Peacock Premium, which provides access to original shows, WWE, and live sports. During its quarterly earnings call in July, Peacock reported that the number of paid subscribers stayed constant at 13 million. This could therefore be a scheme to increase that number.
